Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly affordable in Europe, marking a historic turning point for the region’s automotive transition. According to a recent report by Transport & Environment, the average price of a battery-electric car dropped by around €1,800 in 2025. This means, the average price decreased down to roughly €42,700 across the EU.
This decline, which is also the first price drop since 2020, has been largely driven by the introduction of more affordable electric models along with the EU’s stricter CO₂ emissions targets, which are pushing manufacturers to offer competitively priced vehicles.
As a result, EV adoption continues to accelerate. Electric cars accounted for around 19% of all new vehicle sales in 2025, which is a significant jump from the year before.
Industry analysts now believe that price parity between electric and combustion cars could be achieved by 2030, especially if current climate policies remain in place.
Together, falling prices, stronger regulation, and expanding model availability suggest Europe is rapidly approaching a tipping point where electric mobility becomes the mainstream choice.
